Dog owners are being given the chance to learn how to perform first aid on their pets in new training sessions in Austria.
The St John's Ambulance service is running the course in Vienna which includes advice on giving the kiss of life to dogs.
As well as learning how to resuscitate their pets, dog owners are given guidance on how to bandage up parts of the body to stop bleeding, and on how to diagnose serious illnesses.
"I love my dog dearly but I would probably think twice about giving him the kiss of life, especially just after his breakfast," said one course student.
But a St John's spokesman explained: "Pets now enjoy a status in many homes that really does make them part of the family.
"It is sensible and responsible to learn how to take care of them when they get into trouble."
