A US man arrested for keeping an alligator in his kitchen has told police he did it because the reptile impressed women.
Police raided a property in Ford Heights, Illinois after receiving a tip-off that Dewayne Yarbrough, 43, had an alligator in his home.
"Chicks dig it," Yarbrough reportedly told officers who found the 4ft reptile living in a fish tank in his kitchen, reports Metro.
Officers were surprised by its size, as alligators are typically between nine and 14ft long.
When quizzed about why it was so small, Yarbrough is said to have replied that he only fed it once a month, on a diet of ten live mice.
A spokesman for Cook County Sheriff's Office revealed Yarborough had been charged with possession of a dangerous animal.
"He stated that he kept the alligator as a pet because it attracted women," he said.
Officers from the animal crimes unit confiscated the alligator and it is to be given to the Chicago Herpetological Society.
